Professional Background
What inspired you to become a financial advisor?
I was always interested in numbers as a child. I went into college as a math major but switched to economics because I became fascinated with the stock market. I also enjoying helping others and seeing them succeed, which is basically my job now
How long have you been in the financial services industry?
I started in May of 2008, right after I graduated. What a time to get your start on the eve of the Great Recession! It was a great learning experience and, while very stressful at the time, I know it made me better at my job.
What areas of financial planning do you specialize in?
I enjoy working with cash flow planning. This can be broad as it encompasses inflows, expenses, taxes, savings, etc. but if you have a good handle on your cash flow, you will achieve financial freedom. Money itself can’t buy happiness, but financial freedom allows you to control your time and spend it doing meaningful and fulfilling things.
What certifications or designations do you hold, and why are they important to your clients?
I have two – the CFP®(Certified Financial Planner) and the CDFA™(Certified Divorce Financial Analyst). In my opinion, the CFP® is the gold standard for Financial Advisors to be knowledgeable about many topics and uphold the highest fiduciary standards for their clients. The CDFA™ is a niche where I can help advise people that are going through a very difficult time.
Client Philosophy
How would you describe your approach to helping clients achieve their financial goals?
A lot of the people I work with are already pretty good at saving money. And they have a good idea of what their dream retirement would look like. We help them achieve those dreams, while living a rich life today, and expand the horizons and possibilities.
What do you believe is the most important aspect of a successful advisor-client relationship?
Communication! Life changes, and sometimes very quickly. Regular meetings are imperative. Your financial plan will need to adjust and change as your life does.
Personal Touch
What motivates you most about your work?
The best thing I can hear after our meeting is “I feel much better after talking with you.” Financial security is a massive weight off anyone’s shoulders, and I love being able to help provide that.
What’s one piece of financial advice you think everyone should know?
To quote the great Morgan Housel, “Spending money to show people how much money you have is the fastest way to have less money.”
Beyond the Office
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
My favorite time spent out of the office is coaching or watching my children’s sports teams.
Are you involved in any community or charitable organizations?
Currently, I am heavily involved in the National Aviary, Brad-Mar Pine Baseball, and United Way initiatives!
